Top 5 Best Phones August, 2014

Those of you in the market for a new phone in the month of August are going to encounter a mind boggling number of options. From the iPhone to Samsung’s Galaxy series to Microsoft’s Lumia line, the smartphone market is chock full of options. While the decision will come easy for some people, others are going to struggle weeding through them all. In an effort to help those in need, we take a look at the devices we think are the five best phones for the month of August, 2014.

The last seven months have been extremely kind to smartphone enthusiasts and those that are in the hunt for a brand new phone. We’ve seen a number of new devices hit the shelves including the HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5 and the LG G3, and many of these devices have taken their place amongst the best smartphones of all time. The market is simply littered with fantastic smartphones many of which come without expensive price tags.

As we’ve pointed out many times in the past, having that kind of choice is great for consumers. However, the smartphone market can be extremely difficult to navigate for those that don’t keep a close eye on the smartphone industry. And that’s where we come in.

We are constantly bombarded with questions about the best phones money can buy. There are a number of different devices that we could recommend, the smartphone market is absurdly crowded, but we want to narrow things down a bit and take a look at the devices we think represent the top five phones available.

These devices represent the devices that we’d recommend to friends and family. And while our list may differ from yours, these are the devices that Gotta Be Mobile editors have selected for recognition this month. We feel like the devices listed here deliver the best, all-around package for this month and this month alone.

That said, here are the five best phones for August, 2014. (Note: The Moto X+1 is rumored for August and could be one of the month’s best options. We can’t include it here because it’s rumored. Keep an eye on rumors as we push through the month.)

iPhone 5s

Until the iPhone 6 release arrives later on this year, the iPhone 5s wil remain Apple's top smartphone option and one of the best phones money can buy.

Apple's iPhone 5s comes with the whole package. A beautiful high-resolution display, a speedy 64-bit processor, one of the best smartphone cameras on the market, Apple's iOS software, and a top notch design that's certainly among the best smartphone designs ever made.

What makes the iPhone 5s even more attractive is that we're starting to see iPhone 5s deals ahead of the iPhone 6 release. Walmart, for instance, recently dropped the price of the iPhone 5s. With solid hardware, an upcoming iOS 8 update and a cheaper price tag, this is a smartphone to take note of in the month of August.

LG G3

We've spent a great deal of time with the LG G3 and we can safely say that it's one of the best Android smartphones ever and one of the best smartphones overall. Period, end of story.

Simply put, this is one of the best smartphones we've come into contact with and it's a device that needs to be on the radar of smartphone shoppers during the month of August. From its stellar display to its useful and intuitive software to its fantastic camera and battery life, the LG G3 is exactly what most people want from a smartphone.

What's more is that it's available for cheap through retailers like Amazon. $99 for a smartphone of this caliber is an offer that's going to be hard to refuse.

Nokia Lumia Icon

We still consider Verizon's Nokia Lumia Icon the best Windows Phone that money can buy. It's also one of the best smartphones, in general, that money can buy.

The Nokia Lumia Icon, like the iPhone 5s, comes with a well-rounded set of features. From its beautiful display and design, to its fast processor, to its Windows Phone software, to its camera (one of the best on the market), this is a device that we think consumers absolutely must consider before buying their next device.

For $100 or less, you can snag the Nokia Lumia Icon. A device that simply hasn't gotten the attention that it deserves. It's one of the best devices on the market right now.

HTC One M8

HTC's new HTC One M8 is still one of the best Android smartphones on the market and still one of the best smartphones that your money can buy.

The new version of the HTC One comes with a premium metal design though HTC has added a microSD card slot for expanded storage. It also comes with a fantastic camera, HTC BoomSound speakers, a larger 5-inch 1080p display, and new motion gestures that work in conjunction with the device's Sense 6 software.

It's available on all four of the United States' major carriers including Verizon and its price tag also continues to drop which makes it a device worthy of consideration in the month of August.

Samsung Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is one of the first devices to take a look at if you're in the hunt for a brand new Android smartphone. It offers some spectacular features at a spectacular price and it's worth ruling out before taking the plunge.

We've spent a considerable amount of time with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and consider it one of the best Android smartphones on the market. With an improved camera, design that is water and dust resistant, beautiful display, and upgraded software, the Galaxy S5 is a device that should be on every smartphone shoppers list.

It also helps that its price has dropped well below its initial $199.99 asking price. It's a phone that you must take a look at before buying this month.
